Learning Goal 3

The student can interact with others in a social and business context in a professional way.

Reflection:
How I have met the learning goal
Item 1:
Item one includes the made podcast, this is a podcast made for (young) professionals. I have a small role in this podcast as I conducted the interview that can be heard in it together with a classmate. The podcast contributes to the goal because you can hear me asking a question and answering with another question pointed at the interviewees answer. I would say it shows professionalism in communication because you there is a conversation between two people in which both of them listen to what each one has to say and then respond to it. The podcast itself can be seen as professional but also casual pieces in between, in this case I feel like I knew what was needed from me in terms of communication, so I adjusted myself accordingly.

Item 2:
Item two includes the social post I created for one of the English classes. In this post I show that I can trough online channels communicate with people in a correct and professional manner. In the message I display some of my vocabulary, and various ways of writing. The way it was written was meant to attract various target groups, this because when marketing something you want to attract a large variety of people. The way you can see this is because it is pointed directly at the reader with personalized words. With some tips obtained in class I adjusted the message so that it would be attractive to read. This post contributes to the learning goal since it can be seen as a practice for when I later want to promote one of my items in a professional way.

Item 3:
Item three is my profile statement, this is the most professionally written text that contributes to me meeting my learning goal. This text is written for my CV, this means that if I want to get a job interview people have to like and appreciate this piece of text. There is no room for mistake and it has to show my English qualities. This contributes to this learning goal since it shows that I know how to write a piece of text for a professional setting and professional people. This text has to be correct and can be seen as the way in to an interview. I feel like I showed my professionalism but also my qualities in this text whilst still being able to come across as a social person.

Item 4:
Item four includes a social post created for zwarte cross. The target group of this social post is (possible) employees, this means that the post really has to have specific things to attract the people. The way we have done this is by creating a good visualization with attractive components, and a punch line as caption to make it even more attractive. The post was written in a casual style this because we wanted to communicate the fun one could have whilst working for the zwarte cross. There is a hint of persuasion that can be found in the post itself. This post contributes to this goal since it shows a different side of professionalism in regards of interaction. The post shows that even though the text and image are written and visualized in a casual form it can still be seen as professional communication.

Item 5:
Item five is an email I sent to the exchange team in school to ask for some documentation. This document shows direct communication between me and the recipient. I think this item contributes to the learning goal the most since it shows a personal message I sent. The way it was sent was casual but also professional. It is important for me to have good grammar and vocabulary in emails as it shows you have the knowledge and information needed when communicating.

What I have learned
I have learned that you always have to pay attention to the way you communicate with people. It is said that a lot of people tend to respond to you in the way you send your message to them. If you are going to come across as an unpolite person and write the message in a weird way, they will most likely respond in the same way. you always have to pay attention to what you want to achieve with the message that you are going to send. This is important because you can achieve the result wanted. In class I have learned that in every message sent there should be something to attract the audience as well, I now use this in my messages I want to achieve something with.

What I still want/ need to learn.
I still need to learn how to adjust to certain target audiences a bit more. I know how to write for different audiences but I tend to lean a bit to much to either one or the other side. My messages are either to formal or a bit to informal. I still want to grow in the skill of writing a message for a target audience that really speaks to them directly, even though I know that I can already do this pretty well. I still think I can improve in my way of writing and actually using the vocabulary I know I have. I also want to improve in my skill of actually talking to people and being confident in the use of my English in a professional situation. I tend to scare away when it comes to actually having a conversation with a professional, I want to grow more in this quality because it will most definitely will help me interact with professionals in the future.
