Learning goal 2.1

The student is able to assume different roles during the organization of the MADE Talks connected to the different roles in the business units: concept developer, stakeholder manager (strategy), marketing manager or production leader. Within these different roles the student is able to act as a self-regulating professional, with empathetic ability and an open and analytical attitude, observe and listen without prejudice while continuously self-reflecting on their own role and the relationship between their role and the other roles in the team.

How I have accomplished the learning goal
Item 1
The first item that shows that I have met my learning goal is the MADE podcast. In the preparation phase of this podcast I had multiple roles. By doing all of those roles I can say that I did a lot in the preparation and the actual recording of the podcast. At times I was a bit annoyed by my group and their lack of active participation. Even though I was a bit annoyed I think I handled the situations in a calm and professional matter. A few of the set back in the preparation were situations we could not do anything about, it was my responsibility to handle the situations accordingly. I think in the end with this podcast I show that event though a lot of things go wrong in the preparation we can still set a good result. It shows that trough this positive attitude you can reach the goal you want.

Item 2
the second item that shows I have met my learning goal are the question I set up for the MADE video. For the made video I had a bit of a smaller role in the preparation. My role was to find information about the venue and then formulate questions in a logical and professional manner. This role can be seen as relatively easy, but the communication in our group was lacking a bit during the preparation. For me to formulate the questions so the interviewer could ask them was interesting, my formulation of a question might be completely different from what they had in mind. For this we scheduled a meeting so we could go over them one by one and if there were certain changes I could make in the progress. I think this item shows I have met the learning goal because it shows I am also happy with a smaller role in the group and am able to communicate about this in a professional and effective manner with my group members.

Item 3
The third item that shows I have met my learning goal is the script we created for our MADE & greet event. This script shows our program, the information of the group of organizers and what we need to complete the preparation of the event. For this project I could be seen as stakeholder manager. I was the one that was in contact with the different venues we contacted and made sure that we could host the event at the venue we wanted. I think this event could have gone way better, since not everyone did their tasks it went a bit wrong and it caused for me to in the end step up and do some of their tasks as well. This is also the reason why I am listed on the form as primary contact. I think this item shows I have met the learning goal because, I did not expect to have these many roles, but non the less I stepped up and did what was asked of me to do to make the event work.

What I have learned
For this learning goal I have learned how important communication is in a group like the one we had to organize the MADE talks. I think communication will make sure that things do not go wrong and make for the group to find a solution faster. I also believe it is important to hand out tasks and roles to the members in the group and remind them of what they are doing. When we handed out the tasks most of the times the organization went reasonably well. It made it more organized and easy to work towards the result we wanted. I have also learned it is our own responsibility to solve the issue within the team if something goes wrong, we had multiple occasions of this and in the end I developed myself into actually clearing the air and speaking my mind towards some people in the group.

What went wrong
In some of the projects we had communicational issues. Those issues caused for us to not have the result we want and have to start all over again. For example for the last MADE talk the live event we had different roles that we handed out to the people in the group. Some of us did what was asked of us and some maybe forgot they even had a role. I think I should have stepped in and reminded the members to actually do their job, I think where it went wrong was that we did not have a project manager. We did hand out roles but none that were in charge of the whole project. I think if we would have done this the preparation of the event could have gone better, and the event also would have been improved.

What I still want/ need to learn
What I still want to learn is that it is okay to step up in situations that it is needed. I always feel like I am not the right person to take charge of a situation and it makes me back off. I think in the future I need to step up more in situations like this because the result might improve because of it. I feel it is important to have a good group dynamic and this might be the reason why I try to not take the lead and be on the background to keep the atmosphere good. I need to learn how to combine both and with this reach the result that is wanted.
