The student can draw conclusions, generalize, and give recommendations in English.
Reflection:
How I have met the learning goal
Item 1:
Item one includes the short English podcast we made in class. The podcast shows a conversation between 4 people about completely random topics, the way it was set up is by a random word generator. With the words that came up in the generation we started a conversation, this conversation led to sometimes recommendations but also some conclusions. The podcast shows that you can still learn something in a fun way. It contributes to the learning goal because I think it shows a completely new side to learning something possibly useful. It shows that conclusions can also be drawn from completely random things and facts, that you can still use some useful pieces of information from a fun but reliable source.
Item 2:
Item two is the made podcast, the podcast shows a conversation between 3 students, 2 interviewers and 1 interviewee, that talk about the difficulties of being an international student. In this podcast some generalization can be heard, but also conclusions are drawn about the topic. The questions asked in the podcast are focused on informing possible future international students that will attend the BUas. I only had a small role in the podcast, but I was the one that came up with all the questions and follow up questions asked in it. It shows that I know how to interpret the answer and draw conclusions from and with that go deeper into the subject. The podcast contributes to the learning goal because it shows that I can also as an interviewee lead the conversation into recommendations and conclusions about the topic.
Item 3:
Item three is my own personal reflection on the movie Liberated: The new sexual revolution. from this reflection you can see that I can draw conclusions from images that I have seen in this movie, but that I can also spot generalizations. I feel like it is important to be able see images and with them draw conclusions and possibly with this conclusion give a recommendation to the audience. In this case I think my reflection adds to the learning goal because it shows exactly how I think about the movie, it includes conclusion I had drawn from it but also a strong opinion on how to further handle it and a recommendation on how I would handle a situation like this. It also shows that I have spotted a generalization, and how important it is to sometimes not generalize something.
Item 4:
Item four are my concepting two pagers. Within the two pagers there are some components in which we had to do an assignment for multiple companies. Those assignment are all about doing some research and with this research being able to draw conclusions and give recommendations on how you would solve the issue or come up with a good outcome. I used the two pagers as prove that I met the learning goal because it does not show just one case in which I draw a conclusion and then give a recommendation but it shows multiple.
Item 5:
Item five includes the presentation we have done for Samsung. This presentation came paired with a lot of research. With this research we have had multiple cases in which we generalized people and from this drawn conclusions. In the end those generalizations and conclusions came towards our recommendation. In this case it came in the form of an activation on a festival. I think this item is perfect as proof of the learning goal since it shows all three components connected with each other and how a generalization and conclusion can help with the end goal and that is the recommendation.
What I have learned
I learned that sometimes generalizing is not a good thing, when looking at social and cultural topics it can be dangerous to generalize something, for example if someone does something bad there are people that generalize this behavior to all of the people with the same ethnicity, this is something that can be seen as a negative side of generalization. Going into this I had no idea that generalizing could also be helpful. It will make it easier to conduct research, for example if you would say that all of gen Z feels lonely sometimes. This generalization is nice because it is easy to use in our research, we can focus our recommendation on this generalization.
What I still want/ need to learn.
I feel like I am pretty good at giving recommendations in my personal life, but I want to improve in my way of recommending our research to a business, or professionals. I feel like in the last few project we had some very good ideas but it just did not come across as such, I want to learn how to recommend something in a way that it might actually be very useful for the people listening and participating. I also need to be more careful with drawing conclusions, if you do not have a credible source you can draw conclusions but it might not be the right one. I want to learn on how to read into a source more and from thereon draw better and more useful conclusions.
Documents and files that show I have met this learning goal:
Item 1: short podcast English
Item 2: made podcast
Item 3: reflection on Liberated: The new sexual revolution
Item 4: 2 pager concepting
Item 5: presentation Samsung
