Playground Session

Personal playground session

Situation
for the playground session we had the opportunity to make our own groups according to the topic we picked. I personally find the topic of cultural differences and diversity, this is the reason I picked this topic. In the end I was lucky because I ended up in a group with two classmates I can get along really well, they are also from a different country so they will view the subject from another point of view. The preparation of the playground session went pretty well, we all agreed on what we wanted to show our audience and what message we wanted to bring across. We had also thought of ways to keep it interactive and therefor keep the interest of the audience for a longer period of time.

Task
For the playground session everyone in our group had the same role, we did everything together from the start till the end. Tasks included thinking about what message we want to send, do research, create presentation and poster and preparing the presentation plus session. We also divided the presentation equally because we felt we all could put our best effort into it.

Action
During the presentation our lecturer gave us some advice on things that we could last minute add into the playground session, this caused us to quickly change some things around in the time table we prepared. I feel like we as a group handled this very well, we decided we could switch two components around so we could also add some of the newly though out things. In the end we did not have enough time to complete our entire program, but I think this is something that happens more often. You just have to know how to deal with unsodden changes, be flexible.

Result
I think by changing a few things around we missed out on some of the nice things we wanted to show our audience. The nice thing was that we were open for feedback even during and throughout the session, this made it so that I think in the end we had an optimal result. We were happy that everything went smoothly and the even though we changed some things we still made it happen, we were very happy with our result.

Reflection
Looking back on this playground session I can say that I would be a bit stricter with time frame, we planned some activities that we could not do because the other activities took to much time. I think however we portrayed our message to the audience, and it was received clearly. This was our goal and I think it is safe to say that we reached that goal whilst having fun doing it.

Other playground session

What is it about
The playground session that I am going to describe is about ethical dilemmas in the industry. I think this topic is very interesting and important since there are a lot of things you have to think about in the industry. For me the most interesting topic of the day was when we were discussing drugs in the event world, by doing this with multiple nationalities you could really see the difference between cultures and countries and how they deal with such things. This not only for the topic drugs but also for the other taboo topics that where discussed during the day.

What went well
I think they did a great job by keeping the playground session as interactive as possible. They choose to first give some information and number about the topic, and then let us answer and discuss some statements. By doing this I think we learned a lot about each other and how we would handle certain ethical dilemmas. It also gave new insight in how I could handle situations like these. They kept involving us in the session, It made it fun and not boring because you had to listen to a presentation the whole time.

What I would improve
I really liked all the dilemmas that they included in the playground sessions per topic, but I think in the end it was a bit too much. I would next time maybe switch it up a bit more to keep the interest in the topic and session. I loved the fact that they used numbers and information to provide us with about the topic, but I would love to have heard from a professional in the industry and how they deal with ethical dilemmas and issues like the ones that we discussed in the playground session. I also believe the group could have prepared a bit better and have better communication since one member showed up late and he had an important part in the session, this came across as a bit uninterested and maybe even a little unprofessional.
